Rowena and I went a little crazy last night, but it was fun. We wanted to go out for drinks and food after work to kick off the long weekend, so we decided to check out a little restaurant near her place called “Hapa Izakaya”.

I do! I do! But only if it’s at La Casa Gelato!

I got a phone call last night from my good friend Corinne inviting me out to get some ice cream with her and Sandy and Sandy’s daughter Dana. It’s about a 35 minute drive from their place out to where this ice cream shop is. You might think they are crazy to drive that far for ice cream… but you have never tried ice cream like the ice cream at La Casa Gelato.

Nothing beats a true pint of Strongbow cider.

Last night we decided to go to a little place called the Irish Heather. It’s a quaint little pub in Gastown. It’s very old and makes you feel like you’re in the UK, not that I’ve ever been there to know what it’s like, but this is how I imagine their pubs would be. An old room with a bunch of old wooden tables and chairs with people sitting around and drinking. I’m not a huge beer drinker and I wasn’t in the mood for wine and I noticed something called Strongbow on their menu so I thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised! They brought it out in a HUGE glass, which Clint tells me is a TRUE pint. It was the best cider I’ve ever had! It was light and really refreshing and not sweet at all. I could have downed the entire glass but due to my empty stomach I refrained from doing so. If you have a chance to try this beverage I highly recommend you do. It is now my new drink of choice!

Every year Vancouver has an event called “Dine Out”. It’s usually at the beginning of the year and various restaurants around town will participate and make a special menu for this event. You can go out and dine for a relatively reasonable price at places that are fairly pricey and fancy and included in that price is a 3 course meal. My birthday is fast approaching and every year we go out for dinner to the restaurant of my choice. And every year I always seem to choose the Kobe Japanese Steak House. It’s a little on the expensive side but worth every penny which is why it is reserved for special occasions such as my birthday. The food and atmosphere are great! The show gets a little old after you’ve seen it a few times but it’s definitely worth going at least once. Last time we sat with some Americans and they asked the chef what he used for the onion volcano and he said “gasoline”. I guess you had to be there but it was pretty funny. Anyway, you are usually seated 8 people per grill so if you have a smaller party sometimes you get to hang out with strangers which makes it more interesting. Especially if everyone is drunk.
